Teen Gothic

So there is a goth/post punk/darkwave event happening here today. A daytime event on a Sunday. Pretty great idea if you ask me and I have tried to get stuff like this happening before. Even better the 2 DJs include one of the members of This Cold Night (local Adelaide Darkwave band many of you have heard of, they have been posted in r/goth before) and the other plays alt music on a local community radio station. So they know what they are doing and we will get what is advertised. This is my kind of event – during the day on a Sunday like the record club days but music I like to play myself and someone else is playing it.

The problem? This seems to be a last minute thrown together thing as no one knew about it until today. Instead of being there right now enjoying some great music and having a beer tor two I am here writing this post. If I had a few days notice I could have prepared and gone to it and I an sure most other people are in the same boat. I am hopeful it will happen again as one of the DJs saw my post sharing the event and liked it. I am following them now so hopefully I get more prior warning next time.

Not quite seething but certainly annoyed at the missed opportunity. This is why we promote our events.

My legs hurt, I've been working hard the whole weekend and my painkillers have kicked in. Before I go comatose I really should post this week's thread.

Did I just think that or type it? Am I thinking right now? Shit, I'm typing. This can't be good… think un-typing thoughts, think un-typing thoughts, think un-typing thoughts…

So… how about that goth stuff going on? Someone's always mad at someone for transgressing something. Some music you think should get more or less exposure, if it is even goth at all. BuT iTs PlAyEd In GoTh ClUbS!!!111!!!11oneone!!!!!

There was a thread posted today from someone asking if goths listen to Kiss that reminded me of an incident at a club I was DJing at in the early 10s.

There was a regular who kept pestering me to play Kiss at a mixed genre goth club. I always said no. So they started pestering the manager too who backed me up.

We eventually got sick of them asking every event so the manager and I hatched a plan. I was going to play Kiss but not how they expected it. I found karaoke track and recorded my own vocals. I turned the song into a diss track and made it about pee and scat fetishism (instead of love and lust) including vomit and fart solos. We got our photographer in on it too and he filmed it all.

The Kiss requester took the joke well but the club owner was not happy as they were unaware of what we were doing but they were fine with it after we explained why and people in general enjoyed the joke.

They never requested Kiss again. And that is the moral of the story, be careful what you wish for from a DJ who is well known for also having a troll DJ persona. Don't get mad, get even and have a laugh in the process.

Now back to our regular weekly gripes and wrath.

That's right, it is that time of the week again. When all the moody goths can get things off their chests and complain about life being unfair. Because life is unfair always and especially to you. We all have our own demons to battle (or kiss – you do you) and all our demons seem worse than everyone else's because everyone is me, me, me as we are all single entities in this big bad place we call the universe. But you didn't come here for a philosophical lecture – and a bad one at that. No, you are here to gripe, complain and tell stories about negative stuff that happened for catharsis and entertainment.

Or you can complain about a joke being made by me IRL on people who ironically are people who are complained about in this weekly thread by someone nearly every week because they did something to misrepresent goth. And the people in question I joked with IRL got the joke better than so many people in here did. But I don't blame you, you saw a chance to tear me down and went for it. Not the first time people have tried and won't be the last.

Enough about me, let's hear from you.

I am about to step into enemy territory tonight so I'll keep it brief. I'm DJing at an event called Egirl Nexus. Elitist Joe is putting in an appearance to force a little goth music onto them, they can't dodge it now! MUAHAHAHAHAAAA!

So yeah, bat gripes, goth grindings, spider sneers, you know the deal.

You know what annoys me?

When someone asks for something, you warn them it might make them mad and no one is forcing them to do anything. Then they get mad and act like you are forcing them. Yeah, I'm talking about the problematic band list. Like if you see a band is heavily fascist and decide your fun is more important than oppressing people based on skin colour and then you get judged for your decision that is on you. Freedom of choice doesn't give you freedom of consequences.

Or when people complain that everyone thinks they are an expert on goth when they have no clue and proceeds to act the same about a different subculture in which they have no part or deep knowledge. There is nothing wrong with not knowing everything or deferring to experts who know their stuff. But that seems to be an internet problem as a whole.

I don't know… maybe we should try tap dancing? It couldn't hurt.

People don't read anymore. I'm not talking about books or magazine/news articles (they don't read any of those either, why do that when a video can tell you stuff), I'm talking about things like basic instructions.

Take r/goth for example. The rules are clearly posted and if we have to remove a post we tell you why. People come storming into modmail or angery posting without reading why all the time. As a case in point we had a lot of Fashion Friday posts this week and most (if not all) will be culled. I am expecting a few who haven't read the rules or the removal reason to angery storm somewhere as most are from new people and lurkers.

And then there is post flairs. Sometimes it feels like the only flairs that exist are "Goth Club" and "Old School '80s" because people don't care enough to flair their posts right. Sure it may seem officious and anal retentive but there is method to it. You can search using the flairs so having things in the right flairs means your posts can be found. And you want to be heard and your post seen, otherwise why even post it?

So what's got you down/mad/annoyed/angery/enraged this week? Goth related or not it's all good here. But the goth stuff does get more attention as it should. Pro tip there.
