So, I’m curious about what the goth scene in Chicago was like in the 80s. Was it fun?

Obsessed with all of their music/sound. Most similar and only band I feel that hits the same spot as them is Dead Can Dance so far.
Suggestions? Recs? I'm open!
(also generally trying to get into goth culture and music is probably the best way for me to do that)

I am generally punk by style and taste but I wear a ton of black and listen to some goth music and my friends started telling me that's too goth and that punks and goths don't mix. I don't really care what they think but is this actually a thing
