Can anyone suggest bands/albums that sound like Mephisto Walz – Terra Regina?

This has been one of my favorite albums since its release to just chill to at home or while gaming.

I've recently started looking for more music in this vein (I recall there being a ton back in the 90s) but I cannot for the life of my find anything now that sounds like this album, so here I am, consulting the spiders of the interwebs.

I don’t like goth music* as much as I used to and it makes me sad

So, the first time I heard goth music, was in 2011. It was like a sudden kick in stomach. Like magic. Like a lightning strike. Like an orgasm. It was so good, it became the main genre I used to listen to for next several years. I used to know many bands, old, new, famous, obscure, in different languages etc. It inspired me to write poetry. Whenever I listened to it, it would make me feel great.

Than a <mental illness> happened and I did a break.

Now I'm trying to return into listening goth music agaim and while I still like it, it's not THE MUSIC anymore. It's just good. One of the many other good music genres. Not the OH MY GOD IT'S SO GOOD I WANT TO LISTEN TO IT FOR THE ETERNITY music it used to be for me. And it makes me sad. Its like the fairytale has gone. Is there any way I can bring back those feelings and emotions?

*by goth music I mostly mean goth rock, but I enjoy deathrock sometimes too

What songs have great “hooks” like “Reptile” by The Church or “Swamp Thing” by The Chameleons?

Listened to both of these today. So what else?

A few others:
"Stranger" Clan of Xymox
"Why Can't I Be You" The Cure
"Love Will Tear Us Apart" Joy Division

Would anyone like to see more goth figures of bands?

While there may a few and something like this came out recently:

Peter Murphy toy collectible to be released after Pandemic pause – Plasticgod

I've realized we don't have many goth collectable figures related to bands and high end quality sculptured figures of bands, compared to other genres. Do you think it would be a good idea to help make this happen of course in a way that doesn't seem overly commercial or misrepresenting anything ? If anything, it could be through a more smaller company or person with agreements made to ensure that it doesn't go in the wrong direction.

I think it would be interesting to see a series of detailed figures or dolls or miniature toys not just of the iconic groups but members of numerous band across genres including batcave, darkwave etc given that this toy trend has been a thing for 15 or so years now and for an an affordable price.

Any thoughts?

Lunch lady asked if I was gothic or just dressed like that

Not really a rant. But yesterday one of the lunch ladies at my school asked if I was gothic or just dressed like that, how she put it really caught me off guard. The other lunch ppl were listening in and I just kind of felt like I was put on the spot? After that she said its a nice style and I just said thank you and carried on, probably offended her by not answering but I just didn't feel like explaining myself? Idk. Just sharing an experience. I'm not comfortable expressing that I'm goth to strangers, or people who I feel like just wouldn't get it. I get complimented a lot and don't mind people expressing that they like my outfit but I don't feel like I owe anyone an explanation and refuse to give them one as I have done so in the past and when I think back on it I find it kind of humiliating.

What do you like about goth music?

A more in-depth look at the usual “What’s your favorite X?”

I’d like to know what exactly makes you like the culture’s music. Is it the subtle -yet protagonistic- bass of many songs? The danceable snare beats? The gloomy atmosphere? Let me know!

Bonus 1: What elements make your favorite albums stand out from the rest?

Bonus 2: Nothing is perfect. What elements or trends in goth music do you dislike?

More bands like twin tribes

So I dipped my toes into the pool of goth music with twin tribes and I absolutely ADORE their music. However, I am having trouble finding music like it. Does anyone have any suggestions or information on how I could find more music like this myself? Again I'm VERY new to goth music so if you think any info you have is too obvious it's probably not. Thank you!! 🙂
