What’s your top three 90’s goth bands?

The 90’s is where Goth and fashion died in malls and started to stray from its roots resulting popularity from non goth icons like MM.

Since this was pre-internet. Bands struggled to get recognition unless they were signed to bigger labels like Cleopatra Records.

None the less it is one of the most vital decades full of really awesome bands that sometimes go overlooked. (Not necessarily the bands I’m about to pick, but you get what I mean)

My question is what are your top 3 Goth bands from the 90’s?

For me it’s: 1. Corpus Delicti 2. London After Midnight 3. Rosetta Stone

Those bands for me have a catalogue of great songs!

Realized I’m an Elder now

Last night I went to the biannual goth event in my hometown. It was pretty great, although of course, no it wasn’t just goth music and of course a lot of people there were clearly not actually into the scene, it was really fun to watch so many people enjoying the music and subculture and engaging with something I love so deeply. At the end of the night, a young woman came up to me and told me I was beautiful and she enjoyed watching me dance all night because she never really sees anyone “like her” in our town. I wasn’t quite sure what she meant but she said “I just mean goth, just doing your thing”. I realized that I’ve been into this for 2 decades now and told her as much. Her eyes got real big and said “that’s going to be me some day!” I felt ancient but, it was sweet nonetheless. 🤣

Do y’all like being told that your style looks good in public?

Basically I was walking through my campus and I saw a Goth and I was like “I really wanna tell them how cool they look” but I also didn’t wanna come off as weird. Is it weird?

What are you guys jobs?

I'm curious about what most of you do for jobs and specifically if your job still allows you to dress in a more alternative fashion.

I'm job hunting right now so really I want recommendations and just to see what's open to us. Before anyone says it yes I know goth is a music subculture, but for me at least fashion has had an impact on me as well as the music.

Is Goth resurging?

As an elder goth, I can remember when Hot Topic first started opening stores in the shopping malls. Their entire back wall was Goth clothing. Lace, leather, metal, chains… I bought my first velvet corset at a Hot Topic.

But then they got rid of their goth section roughly 15 -20 years ago is seems and switched it to all anime and cosplay style merch from movies and such.

Yesterday I passed the Hot Topic in the mall, and my eye was drawn to a black sweater on a wall, and I wandered in for the first time in a couple years. A large, intimidating looking, but deceptively adorable person flounce up to me and handed me a coupon for daily discounts. The coupon had relatively goth teens in black lipstick posing in pictures.

And lo… the wall of goth clothing was back.

Corsets, lace dresses, black plaid miniskirts…

And the music was club music.

It warmed my heart. Is it possible our subculture is surging back?
