I need help finding some music!

Hey so I may end up having to DJ a gig tonight, it's an 80s goth/dark wave thing but I'm way more familiar with bands from the 90s..

So far I've got *Clan of Xymox *Fields of The Nephilim *Skeletal Family *Specimen *Sex Gang Children *Play Dead *Xmal Deutschland *Red Lorry Yellow Lorry *The Bolshoi *45 Grave *Christian Death *Bauhaus *and Siouxsie

This is super last min as the other DJs got covid and I'm not super qualified so I'm hoping they're lenient and let me use albums from 90-93 at least lol Any suggestions are helpful! What would you want to hear at a gig?

What are some goth kid shows/movies?

I'm trynna put together a list for my niblings since apparently they like my "alternative" cartoon suggestions, though I would argue that these are shows that plenty of kids like. But, its dark coming from me so it's funny.

They've watched "Growing up Creepie", "The Addams Family(cartoon)", "The Nightmare Before Christmas", "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Many," "Coraline".

I'm looking for things that are actually gothic, not goth underlines like "Hotel Transylvania", or "Danny Phantom".

Any suggestions?

am i a baby bat? i need some help.

of course i understand that listening to music is a huge aspect of goth culture, and i do listen to goth music every now and then, such as tsom, bauhaus, etc. i also do know that you can enjoy other music while still being part of the goth culture. however, i don’t know what to call myself? i also like music from many other subcultures including visual kei, and metal, and some punk occasionally. clothing wise, i dress in (what my punk boyfriend) says is a casual punk style. i’m just having a hard time finding what to refer to myself as. any help is appreciated, thank you. 🖤

What are some of your favorite fictional goths?

After seeing Testament (they/them) announced for Guilty Gear Strive, I felt like we needed a goth character appreciation thread here. What are some of your favorite goth characters in fictional media, be it movies, tv, anime, etc?

Some of my favorites are: Misa Amane from Death Note, V from Devil May Cry, and Matt Miller from Saints Row (he's more of a cybergoth than trad but I still count him).

A few honorable not-so-goth-but-close mentions are Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes (wears a joy division parody shirt and references post-punk music) and Gaige from Borderlands (some of her skins reference post-punk bands, but she's definitely more punk than goth).

Sorry if this is not fit for this sub, not too sure if this belongs in r/goth or r/gothfashion (since most of these characters dress goth but might not be into the music).

Anyone else notice some rising anti-trans sentiment within the goth community?

While it is still low, there seems to be a number of goths or those that claim to be who are openly anti-trans. I wouldn't say its just limited to opinions on the use of pronouns but on all trans identities directly.

Do you think it has the potential to become problematic? How do you view this? Is it mostly online in your opinion? I personally think it's low and mostly online.

In the 90s/2000s there was very fringe death in june and neo-folk/powerelectronics fans, and even rarer officially traditionally conservative or far right actual goths, who sometimes were open about their views in goth clubs. Outside of these people, you'd occasionally stubble upon open homophobia and racism, a bit more than today (hard to asses that properly to be fair), but in the last 5 years or so it was mostly people who at least for the most part barely knew enough about the music spouting alt-right talking points from the internet and claiming to be "goth"

I've just noticed this anti-trans thing, which is barely a thing, in the last year or so. What are your thoughts?
