Unofficial Seething Sunday

We could talk about music from before many of you were born in this thread. But we won't.

We could talk about music released last month that will make many of you go "What? Who? There is more goth music besides The Cure, Siouxsie, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus and Christian Death?!?" in this thread. But we won't.

We could even talk about why I deliberately omitted Joy Division from the above statement in this thread. Again, we won't. Well… someone may get upset and might.

We could even talk about how so many newer bands are clearly "inspired" by older bands to the point of sounding like updated clones of them in the same manner people discussed the Sisters clones of the 90s. Yeah, that could happen.

Then there is the topic of darkwave going disco that happened here some weeks ago. That was a contentious one.

Have I given you enough ideas yet? Or would you rather just complain about who and/or what pissed in your cornflakes this week. Either/and/or. Have at it.

What are some of the ways you’ve been objectified as a result of you being goth?

I'm currently working on an illustration project on the representation of punks and goths and common misconceptions surrounding the subcultures. I would like to hear some of your experiences with people sexualizing the subculture, or objectifying you as a result of your look?

Caterwaul- Cinnamon Color of My Heart

Hello! Here's my daily (or nightly since it's almost 1am here) song post! I love this band so much! Caterwaul is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric bands I've ever heard. Everything from the unique vocals to the gorgeous guitar, my heart and soul fill with joy while listening! They are one of the best etheral bands, right next to the Cocteau Twins I my heart! 💖

Almost 50 and wanting to begin goth

Ever since I was a kid I've had likes that until today I never considered I would be goth. I like the standard black, some of my favorite clothes have had skulls, a red & black plaid skirt, I love chokers… the more I say anything I feel like I'm just trying to make myself sound goth, but looking at pics and thinking about myself over the years it seems to make sense.

So, I want to start trying to transition. I'm hoping for some encouragement even though I'm so old to change up my clothes. I have tons of black stuff, but looking at the goth clothes it seems right.

The pic is me, yes that is a Halloween costume, but it's the closest I have to me in anything remotely goth. I'd love some thoughts and suggestions.

Progressing and learning in TN

Hi, I'm Kat! I'm a trans female living in TN, and I'm just starting to get into the goth subculture even though I'm 40😱. I've been learning and exploring both goth music and fashion. Bingeing on bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, The March Violets, Virgin Prunes, Sex Gang Children, Paralisis Permanente, Xmal Deutschland, 45 Grave, Skeletal Family, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox from the 80s to get a base of things. The music is great can't say I have found anything that I absolutely love, but a lot of things that I enjoy.

I'm now starting to move into the '90s with a playlist of Two Witches, Brotherhood of Pagans, Faith and the Muse, Children on Stun, Nosferatu, Gothic Sex, Whisper in the Shadow, Rosetta Stone, Paralysed Age, Vendemmian, and Corpus Delicti. Again I'm vibing with the music, but still looking for my band I guess. I've also started working on more goth fashion and makeup for myself. I love the makeup and fashion I see from everyone, and really enjoy the looks I have put together myself.

I have always had black as a staple of my wardrobe, as well as being into stuff like old horror movies House on Haunted Hill, Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Wolfman. I can't say I am into modern horror though. I loved Elvira's Movie Macabre back when I was a kid too. I remember staying up late to watch it on TV. I also loved the old dark comedy TV shows like The Munsters and The Adam's family. Was very into The Lost Boys movie, Once Bitten, The Monster Squad, From Dusk till Dawn, Gremlins, Interview with a Vampire, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Movie and TV show), and movies that edged horror but never really went there.

I don't know why I never got into goth music more at a younger age, I had friends that were into it in Highschool heavily, but I guess I was just too shy and not bold enough to explore it for myself. Things have changed though and since then I have realized I am trans and started working towards exploring that and who I am as a woman. This has kinda been the catalyst for my goth awakening. The fashion and makeup drew me in at first and now the music is very much something I feel connected with now.

Anyway, with the introduction out of the way I was just interested in seeing if anyone else is in TN. Doesn't seem like there's a huge scene for goth here, which makes sense it is the south, but I have been looking for things and people that I can venture more into the goth culture with. If you're in TN or know anything here that I should look into please let me know. Looking for accepting open-minded things though as I am trans and pre-transition so still not presenting full-time as female, but I would like to at least start showing others the real me more both the feminine and goth sides.

Sorry this is so long, and I'm sure most won't read, but thanks if you did!

Night Flight “Take Off” to Gothic Music this weekend!

Tonight we dive into the dark underworld of Gothic Rock! Rising from the ashes of late 70s punk, Goth Rock mixed the batwing style of Bram Stoker's Dracula with bizarre sentiments, black humor and a big beat. This classic episode (part of the Night Flight Series 'Twenty Years of Rock N' Roll Style') is a tour de force of goth bands and their myriad solo offshoots. Fittingly kicking off with Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead," this episode also features music from Peter Murphy, Love and Rockets, The Damned, Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim and more. Hope all you post-punk ghouls enjoy!

This is copied and pasted from my email since I am am not familiar with all the ins and outs of Reddit.😄
