Teen Gothic

For a few days, the classical The Cure song ”A forest” came to my mind. And not just the original version, from the 1980, from The Cure. I do not know how many of you know that Robert Smith re-recorded the song in 2003, with the trance duo Blank & Jones from Germany. I remember that I first enjoyed the trance version of it, back in the day, when I was in high school, when I was first ”sniffing” Goth and dark music in general. I was a fan of dark trance back in the day, I still love that genre today, albeit trance itself is a genre that has lost much of its inner power since.

So, I thought of sharing today both incarnations of the song. On both, we hear Robert himself, in the cover version his voice was re-recorded. Even the remixes on the 12”” vinyl of the 2003 version can be considered interesting. Although they kind of move away from Goth, of course, something in there is still kept.

Perhaps from the first version to the second, some dimensions of the song are lost or diminished, some are enhanced, I would say. What do you think? I hope to see your opinions.
