Which goth eras/years are the best in your opinion?
This could be based on lived experience or what you perceive to the best era for goth. There's no right or wrong. You could prefer the current decade or anything older. It doesn't have to be your era.
For me:
Music: 1979-late 90s
Subculture/Community: mid 80s-2005
Fashion: 1982-1987

Goth rock subculture books. Good ones vs misinformation ones, in your opinion
I was just visiting a book store the other day and noticed a lot of mediocre books on goth that still spread misinformation even though there good books that people can still buy. What are books you consider good ones and ones that's spread misinformation? This also helps newcomers avoid books and at least provides of collective sense of better stuff out there.
Conflating architecture, gothic, all things dark as goth or goth alone, a poor analysis of the music history and claims of the subculture predating the music along with conflating dark genres as extensions of goth and a strong overemphasis of the fashion and lifestyle are a few traits of misinformation books.
Good goth books imo (some are out of print):
Gothic Rock Black Book
Hex Files
Goth chic
21st Century Goth
Goth: Undead Subculture
Misinformation books imo (some of these are still in stores or in stock online):
Goth bible
What is goth? by Voltaire
Gothic Charm School

What is your opinion on the Poptone album? What iterations do you prefer? Or do you prefer the originals more?
I was watching GothCast's review on Poptone's self-titled, which I had listened to before, and it inspired me to check out the original tracks. My personal opinions are:
• I love the Poptone versions of Ball of Confusion, Mirror People, OK This Is The Pops, etc. more than their original counterparts.
• I love the original Movement of Fear, Slice of Life, and Christian Says more than the Poptone versions.
• I love both versions of Love Me.

Goths of Reddit, What is Your Opinion on The Way South Park Portrays Goths
I'm talking about the group of kids at the school who are supposed to make fun of goths. If you've seen them, do you find them funny, offensive, etc ? Because I know nothing is safe from getting roasted on South Park.

What is your opinion on other, non-gothic genres?
Hello mates,
I know, a lot of people on this sub listen to other music than only goth-rock/post-punk/darkwave/gothic metal, but usually, it is connected in some way – musically, esthetically, lyrically (industrial metal, punk-rock, or even guys like Marilyn Manson). Do you like any other kinds of music? Especially something that isn't connected to the gothic subculture in any way – dub, reggae, hip-hop, house, downtempo, synth-pop, jazz, classical music, etc. Would like to hear your thoughts on the topic.
