Feedback: What do you think of the new music flairs?

Our new music flairs, see here or more details, have been up almost 2 weeks now. How do you feel about them and do you think they've added anything, restricted anything, etc? I'd like some feedback on how members feel.

New Flairs

Regarding my last post, I asked if there were any new flairs you'd like to see and the new flairs that have been added are:

  • Old School 80s – for any releases during the 80s, up until 1989.
  • Underrated 90s – for any releases during the 90s, up until 1999.
  • Post-2000s – for anything 2000s onwards, any releases (albums, compilations, EPs, etc.) under a month old should be posted under the 'New Song/Album/Music Video Release' flair.
  • 2020 Release – for any releases released in 2020.
  • 2021 Release – for any releases released in 2021.
  • 2022 Release – for any releases released in 2022.
  • Underground – open to interpretation, but anything with less than maybe 5,000 listeners on Last.fm/Spotify at the most. This number can change, it really depends on everyone's perspective of "underground".

(Any ideas for names for the late 70s releases are welcome.)

Any releases from 2020/21/22 are welcome to be put under 'Post-2000s' however, I think it's important to highlight these releases from the past three years as people have a habit of proclaiming "Goth is dead".

The flairs are still open to being changed (and we accept suggestions/comments), however, this method will be trailed for the time-being.

New Blacklist Rule & Updated Flairs

Hello everyone,

The subreddit grows every single day and so do the posts, so we think it's about time we introduced a band blacklist, albeit a small one.

Frankly, we're quite tired of being seen as the subreddit who thinks "only 5 bands from the 80s are goth" or that we "don't accept anything other than traditional goth bands". We've seen this many times from users in the past and we can only assume that they are only sorting the subreddit as 'hot'.

So from today, the following list of bands are banned from being posted on the subreddit, except for on Throwback Thursday:

  • Bauhaus
  • Siouxsie and the Banshees
  • The Cure
  • The Sisters of Mercy
  • Joy Division
  • Christian Death
  • Cocteau Twins
  • Dead Can Dance

'Throwback Thursday' can be used for any releases pre-2000s, as our new Modern Music Monday is for post-2000s. This doesn't mean you can't post other 80s, 90s, 00s, 2010s and 2020s bands outside of these days, but do keep the blacklisted bands only on Thursday's.

This list isn't final and we will review the influx of band every so often, to determine if anything needs to be added or dropped from the list.

Posts from these bands on days other than Thursday's are only accepted if:

  • It is a rare or recently recorded live version of a performance
  • It is a new release e.g. song, EP, album, etc. Excluding remastered versions
  • It is about a new tour or reunion
  • An anniversary of a release or even a band members birthday

By implementing this new rule, we hope that new, obscure, and underground bands and albums can get a little bit more recognition and attention that they deserve.

If you're new, confused, and have never heard any of the above artists, please note that you can reach baby bat/beginner recommendation material through our Wiki on our Music Menu, which recommends tailored playlists. Additionally, you can still use the 'Classic Song' flair which songs from the bands above should come under.

Since this is a new rule, please comment any questions you may have or anything that you want clarifying.
