Updated Recommendations Request🦇

Hello! Since the last request for music recommendations I’ve posted here, my goth taste has formed and matured a bit 🙂 I would love recommendations similar to the stuff on THIS PLAYLIST.

As you’ve probably noticed, my favorites are Bauhaus, Lycia, Rendez Vous, The Witches, Selofan, Love Spirals Downwards, and This Mortal Coil.

Thanks!

New Blacklist Rule & Updated Flairs

Hello everyone,

The subreddit grows every single day and so do the posts, so we think it's about time we introduced a band blacklist, albeit a small one.

Frankly, we're quite tired of being seen as the subreddit who thinks "only 5 bands from the 80s are goth" or that we "don't accept anything other than traditional goth bands". We've seen this many times from users in the past and we can only assume that they are only sorting the subreddit as 'hot'.

So from today, the following list of bands are banned from being posted on the subreddit, except for on Throwback Thursday:

  • Bauhaus
  • Siouxsie and the Banshees
  • The Cure
  • The Sisters of Mercy
  • Joy Division
  • Christian Death
  • Cocteau Twins
  • Dead Can Dance

'Throwback Thursday' can be used for any releases pre-2000s, as our new Modern Music Monday is for post-2000s. This doesn't mean you can't post other 80s, 90s, 00s, 2010s and 2020s bands outside of these days, but do keep the blacklisted bands only on Thursday's.

This list isn't final and we will review the influx of band every so often, to determine if anything needs to be added or dropped from the list.

Posts from these bands on days other than Thursday's are only accepted if:

  • It is a rare or recently recorded live version of a performance
  • It is a new release e.g. song, EP, album, etc. Excluding remastered versions
  • It is about a new tour or reunion
  • An anniversary of a release or even a band members birthday

By implementing this new rule, we hope that new, obscure, and underground bands and albums can get a little bit more recognition and attention that they deserve.

If you're new, confused, and have never heard any of the above artists, please note that you can reach baby bat/beginner recommendation material through our Wiki on our Music Menu, which recommends tailored playlists. Additionally, you can still use the 'Classic Song' flair which songs from the bands above should come under.

Since this is a new rule, please comment any questions you may have or anything that you want clarifying.
