Peter Murphy’s “Wild Birds Live Tour” Dedication to Denzel Washington

Would someone please share/explain Peter's dedication to Denzel Washington on "Strange Kind of Love"? Was it about Denzel losing the Best Actor Oscar for "The Hurricane"? Peter's comment is hard to make out. Thanks for the help.

Go see Nox Novacula on tour

I saw them a few days back, and was totally blown away.

I’d only gotten into them a few weeks ago, and was instantly struck by what a strong sound an aural presence they had, absolutely my favorite discovery when it comes to recent goth/death rock. Their 2021 album Ascension stands as one of the best albums of the decade thus far imo, regardless of genre. Powerful wailing vocals that echo Siouxsie, pulsing punchy bass with same churning energy of Lords of the New Church, sparse jagged guitar playing that sounds like a dagger carving out a threatening melody, and incredible energetic drumming that keeps the songs racing forwards with unrelenting danceable beats.

While I had hoped they might play longer than the 30-40 minute range (no shade, I just wanted more!), they completely gave their all and turned in an incredibly captivating performance. Charlotte, the vocalist, was almost impossible to look away from as she owned the stage, her voice was powerful and her presence commanding. Foreboding and seductive at the same time.

The band had no problem keeping their energy and entrancing sound going through a somewhat comical complete failure of the stage lights, playing in total darkness as the sound/light guy frantically ran around trying to fix the situation. Prompting stage banter of “don’t worry, we’re not a spooky black metal band who’s going to play in the dark…” after house lights were finally flipped back on.

You should definitely go see them if you get the chance. From what I can tell these are their remaining dates:

Sep 06 Monarch Tavern Toronto, ON

Sep 07 Small's Hamtramck, MI

Sep 08 Beachland Tavern Cleveland, OH

Sep 09 Riverbend Music Center Cincinnati, OH

Sep 09 Healer Indianapolis, IN

Oct 01 Lucky Liquor Tavern Tukwila, W

Also, shout out to the random woman who gave me a small bat toy since “I looked like I needed a buddy”.
