Is early 80s U2 gothic?

I’ve always thought of U2 in the early 80s as a gothic band but for some reason whenever someone talks about gothic bands from that era, U2 is never mentioned. Yeah they became just a regular rock band after the 80s but back when they were starting they had lots of eerie, dark songs which to me, fitted in to what bands were classed as gothic back then (An Cat Dubh, 11 O’Clock Tick Tock, The Ocean, Another Time Another Place, Drowning Man etc.). I think it’s that people just know for the popular hits and don’t know about their early stuff. So what do you think?
