any goths in their early 20s?

Hello there, I've lurked on this subreddit for awhile and I've been kind of lamenting the fact you don't really see any alternative people anymore, especially in Texas where I reside, it's hard to find people you relate to so I thought maybe, I could post something here for goth people around my age or older to gather and maybe find some like-minded friends? Sorry if this isn't very coherent but hopefully I've gotten my point across. Thanks for your time, and meet me in the comments if you like, maybe we can start a discord?

Late summer and early fall shows with NYC as an example (an embarrassment of riches)

There is an embarrassment of riches for goth, darkwave and post-punk fans of both established bands and new ones in the New York City area and all over the country late summer and early fall. Many of these bands are doing full tours and may be coming to a city near you too if you are in North America and elsewhere! This is an amazing season of shows. I'm sure I've missed some because there are so many to keep track of. Between now and the end of October, you can see:

  • Peter Hook and the Light – Aug 27, Terminal 5, performing Joy Division albums (honorable mention to New Order who is also touring)
  • The Damned – Aug 31, Sep 1, Chelsea Music Hall
  • Black Rose Burning, The Long Losts, Hallowed Hearts, Twin Tribes, Ritual Howls, Then Comes Silence, Nuovo Testamento, Astari Nite – Sep 2 and 3, Murder of Crows Festival, Mercury Lounge and Bowery Ballroom
  • Bauhaus – Sep 8, 9, Kings Theatre
  • Echo and the Bunnymen – Sep 14, Terminal 5
  • Creux Lies – Oct 1, St Vitus Bar
  • Pink Turns Blue – Oct 8, Market Hotel
  • The Mission UK, The Chameleons, Theatre of Hate – Oct 13, Le Poisson Rouge
  • Linea Aspera, Bootblacks – Oct 19, St. Vitus Bar

Show-wise this is a great time to be alive. Loving this. Anyone seeing any of these bands in NYC or elsewhere?

Early Non-UK Goth Rock/Post-Punk Goth Bands?

Were there any early (70s/80s) Non-UK Goth Rock/Post-Punk Goth Bands? Bands similar to Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, etc.. But not in the UK?

To be clear, any goth bands outside of deathrock, cold wave, gray rock, after punk, darkwave, ethereal wave?

Being goth in the Early 2000s wasn’t easy

I noticed nostalgia is moving toward the early 2000s lately, and while it's good to explore and discuss a lot of really good goth music and positive aspects of the subculture and scene memories from this time, on the other hand, I have to say if you into the music and subculture then while it was happening, it wasn't always an easy time for everyone for the following reasons especially when compared to a certain periods in 90s and 2010s-present.

-Loads of increasing misinformation from every corner; tv shows, questionable books, and overwhelming amount of poor or mediocre internet articles. For some reason it seemed more than other periods.

-There was much more of a limit on what you could find online, in terms of music and band info and music via filesharing and video content.

-Very conservative time and lots of homophobic and vulgar language was extremely normalized and could be frequently used towards anyone that was goth.

-Lots of people conflated industrial bands with goth. Too many people appropriating goth at the same time (cybergoth, mall goths etc)

-Right after Columbine and few years after, dressing goth, depending where you lived, increased your chance of getting physically assaulted compared to other periods, labeled as a potential shooter, sent to a school therapist, totally harassed non-stop etc

-Also less easy to find DIY guides compared to today and other periods.

What do you remember?

There are tons of positive things about this period. The point here is just to have honest discussion about how things were for some people into goth.

Info on goth online groups circa 80s to early 90s

Anyone have any interesting links, memories or names relating to online discussion groups from around 1979 to 1993 that were centered around discussion of goth and post punk bands and the scene as it was happening? This would be through BBS and Usenet primarily before the internet took over in 1994-1996.

I just think its fascinating to read and document such things, even if a few low percentage of people knew about online discussion groups and were using modems to discuss goth music.

As you know, online activity was thing way before the latter 90s and it was centered more around computer nerds, hacking, specific industries, universities with much less casual users and with a different and much less developed infrastructure than the modern internet.

The first public goth sites on the internet from my memory date to 1994-1995, they were just a few, seem to have operated as personal homepage fan websites, often seemed very basic, limited or poorly written.

I believe there few bands posting music samples around then I can't confirm the names, since there weren't that many bands and each had a few tracks and music sampling was less common until 1997. They were likely to be on the Internet Underground Music Achieve (IUMA) or Den's Cyberden around that time, but I can't be certain.
