Teen Gothic

So I’ve been listening to some goth music and seeing how people dance to it and it seems like a lot of fun. While I’m not goth (I dress fairly basic) I’m very into 90s alt, hardcore, and nu-metal. When I’m dancing at a party to pop or rap I feel very trapped and insecure but goth dancing seems very free flowing and fun. I also want to meet new people and stuff. Should I go and how should I dress with the limited stuff I have?

I'll summarise so people who don't want to watch it can get the gist of what happened. In 2018 Eurydice Dixon (an up and coming Australian stand-up comedian) was on her way home after meeting with her boyfriend that night in Melbourne, Australia and she was stalked, sexually assaulted and killed by a man because he liked how she looked "goth". I will not name him because fuck this arsehole, he doesn't deserve the infamy.

His reason for stalking and assaulting her that night was he liked the look of her "because she looked goth". He also liked "emo" porn on the internet and over time shifted into more sexually violent content then later snuff films. He was also viewing this sort of material online after the crime to re-live it. He told his dad that next time he'll do it "better".

The chief of police spoke about ways women can keep themselves safe and many women took offence at this as it felt like victim blaming. And of course this annoyed the MRAs and anti-feminists. Before the planned vigil for Eurydice on the spot she died, an MRA activist vandalised it because he didn't like the feminist connotations. That's besides the main point about why I am posting this here but it is worth mentioning as it shows the contempt many men have towards women in general.

This is a case with a direct link to goths, emos and alt people being sexualised online leading to a real life crime. We don't know if he was just an awful man fetishising who took things way too far or saw her looking "goth" as a sign of weakness thus a soft target. I feel like he was emulating the porn he was watching either way. It was all for self gratification and power on his part and Eurydice looking goth/emo was a big part of that.

A lot of the porn out there with goth/emo people is very sexually violent or at least BDSM oriented. This shows it can lead to violent consequences in the real world though it has to be said most people wouldn't do something like this. But it can happen and they will cite that sort of porn as an influence.

I hope this bastard is never let out of prison as the judge thinks he has no remorse and will highly likely do it again. That said, he apparently isn't having an easy time of it in prison as other inmates have attacked him due to the nature of his crime.

Can be humorous or sincere. Personally, I think tiktok by Ke$ ha could be amazing.
