Teen Gothic

I mean… they create postpunk, darkwave music why aren't they goth? Bands like Siouxsie and the banshee don't only make goth music and don't consider themselves goth but they are considered a classic goth band. why?

I know dark wave is a sub genre of new wave, which isn’t goth, so I’m unsure if it’s correct to call dark wave a genre of goth music. Same with ethereal wave.

I’m a babybat so I’m still learning but could you guys help me differentiate which sub genres are considered goth and which are just enjoyed by goths?

I tend to wear black clothing, long hair, etc. I've been this way since my early 20's just purely out of what I like to wear and never intentionally tried to be "goth". I did some Google research on this and am very much attracted to whatever "Romantic goth" is. I tend to listen to classical music, soundtracks, etc. I'm not sure where to begin or even what to do. Figured I'd join this group and see if I could gain some clarity. Thank you.
