Has anyone been to Chicago’s Vampire Ball before?

I’m going to this goth event later in March and it seems it’s been a yearly thing for like four years straight. To those who have been,

How was it? Is the venue cool? Meet any cool people? Any stories you want to share?

I’m super excited to see Nuovo Testamento but also nervous since my experience with goth events is very limited. I don’t even know what to wear!

5 Days of Alien Sex Fiend, Day 1: Who’s Been Sleeping in My Brain? (1983)

Over the next five days I’ll be showing off my collection of Alien Sex Fiend vinyl in chronological order of release, starting off with their debut album, Who’s Been Sleeping in My Brain?

This is a solid album with a sound that’s closer to classic goth rock than most of their work. Some songs will make you feel like dancing, some will make you feel like falling down the stairs (in a good way).

Extras: red and black splatter vinyl and dust jacket with hand written song lyrics

My 3 top tracks (in the order they appear on the track list):

– Wish I Woz a Dog

– I Am a Product

– Ignore the Machine

Honorable mention:

– Lips Can’t Go

Does any goth whos been in the scene for years feel nostalgic when helping newer goths?

Everytime I recommend bands to a newer goth it always reminds me of when I was 12 and getting into the scene. It's a good feeling. It's nice helping someone discover who they are. Does anyone else feel this way?! I hope I'm not alone on this lol

Besides the jacket I’ve been working on boots too. For the boots I bought a spool of stainless steel chain and used some old skull safety pins to hold the slack. Also drew a few spooky things on them.

Happy half way through the year day! I thought I’d post this playlist of 2024 post-punk, goth rock, darkwave, deathrock, etc. releases so you can see what’s been released so far.

Trent from Daria with Bauhaus and The Sisters of Mercy posters in his bedroom! Been posted before, but had to re-post as I haven’t seen this show since it first came out, when I didn’t know who these bands were then! So seeing this now is so cool for me! :)

What’s the worst/most disappointing concert you’ve been to?

For me it was Sisters of Mercy somewhat recently. I really love their music but the quality and everything was a real let down. Seemed like they were stuck in a contract and just tried to finish the concerts so it'd end

Just bought tickets to see Sisters of Mercy, I have never been to any kind of concerts before, what can I expect?

Hello friends! I saw that SoM is having a concert near me in October, and bought the “Floor – General Admission Standing” tickets on a whim. I’ve seen this sub making fun of SoM’s concerts, but I don’t mind a “crappy” performance. It’ll be nice to still see them before they retire.

I have never experienced the music scene. I’m in my mid 20s, and this is going to be my first concert. I don’t have friends to go with me or give me guidance, so I wanted to turn to this sub for help!

  1. The location is at San Francisco The Masonic, what can I expect? Is it huge and easy to find?

  2. What does “Floor – General Admission Standing” tickets entail outside of its name?

  3. How can I better prepare myself? I’m probably going to be taking the Bay Area Transportation System so I don’t have to worry about parking

  4. Do people dress up at SoM concerts?

  5. Is going alone as a 25 year old female poc safe?

Many many thanks in advance!!
