“Goth” nights

Hello!

I’m annoyed at death guild in San Francisco!

Death Guild is apparently the longest running goth/industrial night in the country, however they didn’t play a single goth or industrial song last night aside from fascination street and some club remix of a Siouxsie song.

Otherwise they were just playing what sounded like rave or even dubstep music.

I will say I’m not too well versed in EBM or its many subgenres but it really didn’t sound like the EBM i know of.

Is this a common occurrence? Going to an advertised goth night just to end up not hearing many goth songs at all?

What songs would you play to “convert” someone?

I know that "convert" isn't the word I'm looking for here, but I couldn't think of a more succinct way to put it! I'm trying to compile some songs together that might get some of my friends hooked on the genre as much as I am; I have shown them some Pink Turns Blue because I'll be seeing them in September (so, so, so excited…!) and they liked them, but I was wondering if anyone had any more songs that they had used to get someone hooked on gothic rock.

I know that other people are (ugh!) independently-thinking human beings who might not like the same things that might have changed my life, but I want to at least give it a shot!

So, do you have any songs or albums that you've played for people and had success in getting them hooked on the genre, or what do you think could? I'm thinking the classics are an obvious choice (especially Siouxsie is very popular even with those who have never heard of goth rock), but am incredibly partial to smaller bands myself, and those were the bands that really made me addicted to the sound and sought more of the genre.

I hope this post is alright! I'm just brainstorming songs and playlists right now, and am curious about this in general.

What was your first goth song and what completely threw you in into the goth subculture?

You know I always had a inner goth in me, I always denied myself as a goth despite the fact I listen to some of the music, I always thought that being a goth meant to be one in general having some traits and listening to the music, And in the end really its more of if you listen to the music you are already a goth, The first goth song I have ever listened to was surprisingly and I am not sure if this counts at all but it was the most mysterious song on the internet, Yes that was literally the song's name and I kinda got curious into its the genre since I liked it soo much, I delved into it more and found out it was gothic, And from time to time I started to listen to goth music, But what really got me in into being a goth was, The march violets – natural history, I was listening to random goth music on spotify in like 1 AM while drrawing, And I remember specifically this kicking in, Giving me the most satisfying goosebump ever.

And here I am finally getting into being goth, And posting here, I may look like the biggest conformist yet, But I am a goth from the inside and I wanted to know what completely got you in into being a goth too? Or threw you in, In that case?

Awhile ago I’ve posted asking for more Native American goth bands.

There were only maybe two answers I received but since getting into Djing more it's growing so I made a playlist. All bands fall under the goth umbrella from New Wave to Deathrock.Indigegoth Spotify Playlist

Please enjoy and if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them!
