Teen Gothic

My first dedicated goth look as a new member in the community (to go see the Backrooms movie yayyyy Kane pixels!!!)

Question for you all:
Goth is music based, but not entirely music — what else do you believe makes Goth what it is?
I heard a take I really liked that said it's also an outlook. To be goth is to embrace the strange and morbid and taboo, to be weird and to love that you are.

p.s., just joined this subreddit so I'm still getting familiar with the rules. trying my best to follow them, but please point me in the right direction if I'm doing something wrong!

This is probably not worth a discussion thread, but I find it interesting how the reverse is usually true for most people trying to get into goth (ie loving the look but not the music).

For me, it's very, very easy to like the many branches of goth music (death rock and ethereal wave being my favourite genres under the umbrella). As it's understood, you can't call yourself a goth if you don't like the music. But are you a goth if you ONLY like the music?

I'm not a spooky person, but I can't get enough of the reverberating guitars and dreary melodies. The style can look very beautiful, but I'd feel suffocated if I dressed in the same style everyday.

I'm not looking to categorize myself in anything, but I was curious to see who else was in the same boat.

I had a nosebleed seat apart from my friends but still had to turn a medium-level look. I'd cried most of the eyeliner off by the end of the show.

nb. I do know NIN is not goth, but of course adjacent and beloved by many of us.

for new years, I decided white base was a little plain so I decided to experiment to add a little pop of color and I think im obsessed with how it looks. hope yall appreciate 🩷

Replacing this with a patch as soon as I can, this is horrific to look at

To be fair these are the only goth bands that I’ve listened to extensively, I’m sure if I knew of all that was out there my list would likely look very different.

Turned 20! Still not old enough to go to goth clubs :’)

So I have these pants and I want to dye them black, would You recommend that? I want the different shades to stay, but the pants itself to be darker. The photo is what the pants look now.
