Teen Gothic

Hey fellow bats,

Just wanted to see what are the experiences (and advice) from both new-ish goths and elder goths in your scene. Specifically where the scene is dying out/experiencing an identity crisis.

As much as I love my local goth scene, we are facing inconsistent events and the music that is being played is also being inconsistent. Not to mentioned there's also drama behind the scenes that have made things hard to have a consistent audience. We have also lost beloved venues left and right, which means the only consistent events that many babybats have are corporate emo events and some metal events. (I won't go too detailed on the issues we have, to not start any fire)

So the question is: how will you even start to save the scene if you are in this situation? I don't know anything about event management and kind of want to be a DJ to be able to spin stuff that people wants to hear. I'm curious about your thoughts and advice. Thank you.

I’ve been meaning to get into Siouxsie and the Banshees (and more goth music in general) but I always have trouble figuring out where to start. Any recommendations for Siouxsie album(s) that are good for first time listeners/people not as accustomed to goth music?

I realized that I had started listening to the whole goth scene for nearly 2 years now without actually knowing about it being goth. But for those that did. When did you start? And how did you know you were real into it. My bad for the dumb questions!

Hi so i seen a post on this thread asking “what’s the most gothic song” and a couple people said bela lugosis dead has to be the most goth because it “started it all”. Can someone please explain how did this song create people being goth. Sorry if it’s common knowledge just curious and never heard of this before haha.

When I was new into goth, I noticed that I liked songs with those specific sounds, like Killing Joke – Love like Blood

then at some point I bought Diablo 2 and started a new game and heard that:

and immediately thought it'd make a good riff in a goth rock song. Well, the rest of the music from Act 1 was also good and had many elements that could be incorporated into goth songs.

I'm wondering – are there some songs I'm unaware of, that incorporate those or similar sounds? Or maybe after so many decades someone actually made a goth cover of Diablo 2 music?
