The frustration of a band doing one amazing song and none others like it

Was just thinking about this in the moment. There are these songs I find amazing, but the bands never did anything else remotely like them. It's hard to do that repeatedly. It's not necessarily because the lack the talent, just never did anything similar. Leaves such a yearning for what will never be.

The one's I'm thinking about right now are The Last Song by Trisomie 21(I like this version best, nothing to do with the dancing people), Not What I Expected by Crispy Ambulance, Shaving My Neck by Gene Love Jezebel, and Man of Straw by Sad Lovers and Giants.

I like the macabre, and usually, unfortunately, others tease me over it…?

It feels over done and cheesy. Like a stereotypical scenario of the every day joe telling someone it isn’t Halloween yet. It happens because of my music, my art, my clothes, my interests, ect. Usually I can laugh it off or awkwardly smile, but there are times where I simply can’t entertain it. It’s tiring sometimes. It’s this acceptance of loss I’m feeling in knowing I’ll always have empathy for what others enjoy, even if I dont enjoy it, and my world feeling consumed by others who will never do the same. It’s the most saddening when you thought you were in a place where other lost souls go, but even in a grave of the souless, you are an outcast.

Unto Others, Evil Becomes Rule and the future of Goth Music discussion

So I was reading through the FAQ's for the sub for funsies and in the section about Gothic Metal there's a snippet talking about the lack of an established metal-goth rock fusion which got me thinking of Unto Others(formerly Idle Hands) who play essentially bass-driven Deathrock with a heavier guitar tone and touches of metal aggression at rare times(Think TSOM's Vision Thing meets Horror Vacui and The 69 Eyes), these guys are getting pretty popular, touring around the world and all and I'm wondering if it'll spawn more music along these lines, and if it does, how would it be recieved by the goth community? Would it be accepted? What would it mean for the evolution of the genre? It's such an interesting development to me considering there really aren't any bands with this sort of sound, at least none so established as this so it's difficult to say what the impact will be going foreward. My personal opinion is that the next wave of goth music will consist of 2 main sylistic routes, the first being similar to that of the latest Christian Death album which imho continued to push the limits of what goth music could be and secondly similar to Unto Others as I've detailed. I'd like to hear some thoughts on the matter!

I got into an interesting argument about the goth subculture & curious about others thoughts

I will preface this by saying this was a disagreement on tiktok which sounds so silly and i realize this.

Anyways, this girl posted a makeup look with dark eyeshadow and eyeliner and she put “#gothic” as one of the hashtags. People were grilling her in the comments saying this wasn’t goth, she didn’t look goth, etc. and I personally felt that was wrong. I commented and shared how goth is a music based subculture and that as long as you love the music, know the ideals and history of this subculture, you are goth! The makeup and fashion is just a plus. And I went on to say how there are plenty of folks who are goths and do not look the part (me included most of the time, thanks Covid)

And someone argued with me saying that goths follow a certain aesthetic and the one she’s dressed as is not it. And I said that I understand that but I think there should be more room for individual expression because the typical goth aesthetic is not one size fits all. And then they shot back at me saying things such as “well you can’t wear lip gloss and pink and be considered goth, etc” and I just am wondering where this whole mindset is coming from?

It was really giving off “you don’t look goth enough if you aren’t wearing x/y/z” vibes which I think could give baby bats a bad taste when first entering the subculture. Why can’t we wear pink and lip gloss and still be goths? I ended the argument with a respectful exit but I’m curious what you guys think. I personally think that since the core foundation of goth is music, it shouldn’t matter what you look like. But this is simply my opinion and any other thoughts are welcome! No opinion is wrong, we all have our points of view and I accepted hers with grace even if I disagreed

I also apologize if this is not the right space, please remove if need be!!
