I just got invited to a “goth baddies assemble” group on Instagram and the contents sickened me. What I didn’t show here that was in the chat was clip art of sexual acts. As per the discussion flair, what do you all do when experiences occur where you’re objectified? (Also feel free 2 report them)

I just got invited to a "goth baddies assemble" group on Instagram and the contents sickened me. What I didn't show here that was also in the chat was clip art of sexual acts. All from the people you see in the screenshots. It was disgusting to see, and infuriating. The constant fetishization of the subculture pisses me off on a daily damn occurrence. I reported the chat itself and the people, but I of course doubt that IG will even do a damn thing. I felt the need, amidst my agitation lmao, to come to reddit to vent about it and use it as an opportunity for discussion on how you as individuals feel about this constant issue and what you do to prevail over this and any experiences you've had related to being sexualized and objectified without your consent, when just trying to exist and mind your business.

(And if any of yall feel the desire to seek out that scum and mass report them, that would just be sweet, sweet justice 🤭 but that's just a bonus lol)

my mom was pretty goth when she was younger and i didn’t know until recently

i’m not totally sure what flair to put here but i just wanted to talk about it somewhere. i’m a baby goth just starting to get into more of the music— you might’ve seen my posts on here before. but just recently i found out my mom was into a few well known goth bands in the 80s! she’s always had a cool music taste, i grew up on green day for example. i’ve also known she was into quite a few post-punk bands when she was younger, echo & the bunnymen and the cure being two of her favorites. she was OBSESSED with the cure and in love with robert smith i believe. but i just asked her if she also listened to bands like siouxsie & the banshees and cocteau twins since i’ve been getting into them lately and she said she was and to totally look into it! she never dressed in gothic fashion but i just thought it was super cool to know lol

Didn’t get into a goth Facebook group because I didn’t know the name of Andrew Eldritch’s cat!

Most subs have questions you have to answer when you apply to join but this is just ridiculous. Is the name of his cat supposed to be something any goth would know?

Trent from Daria with Bauhaus and The Sisters of Mercy posters in his bedroom! Been posted before, but had to re-post as I haven’t seen this show since it first came out, when I didn’t know who these bands were then! So seeing this now is so cool for me! :)

Who else didn’t actually get to “look goth” until their 20s? Or older?

So, I got super deep into the goth subculture at 17, and I was a monster high kid in middle school so who’s rlly surprised? I’d say that was my first exposure to gothic things, back when I loved my monster high dolls at 11-13 while simultaneously dipping my toes into the world of emo and metal and something of the complete opposite, kpop 😭 but anyways at 16/17 I started listening to goth artists a lot, so I say thats when I officially started being goth. I never got to actually LOOK goth tho, even tho I wanted to. I’m currently overcoming social anxiety and body image issues and gender related issues that prevented me from dressing the way I wanted, so now that I’ve recently turned 20, I’ve decided this will be when I start expressing myself to the fullest, without a care. I don’t want a repeat of my teens. And the problem is, I have this silly little complex about being 20 and only now doing this, since I could’ve been doing it since high school. Ik its so so stupid to think that 20 is “too late” for anything but its kinda hard to ignore when ppl my age are constantly talking about how “old” they are.

Freehanded a TSoM tee, I got too lazy to make a stencil so I didn’t follow 100% the original logo, but I like how it turned out

The title is a little clickbaity, but I think this further proves that goths can by any religion. Goth itself is not a religion. Also, Nick Cave has been through a LOT that I didn’t know about. Interesting read!
