What do you think about goth bands using backing tracks in a crutch-like manner during live shows?

I remember my introduction to the existence of backing tracks. I was at a goth/industrial show and the opening band had to cut their set to about half a song. Because the cd player handling the backing tracks failed. I have seen goth bands tour my city and the first show had a full band. The next show had a missing bassist who had now been absorbed into the backing track. It felt like Alice in Wonderland but lame. Many shows I see people freaking out over are literally just a karaoke show with a keyboard playing single notes.

I understand it isn't easy to tour in this economic climate and make sure everybody gets paid decent, but it's reaching the point where I think the audience have lowered their own standards to accommodate what they are oversaturated with. Curious what other people think based on shows they have been to.

How does someone wanting to get into the scene learn about local shows and stuff?

I’ve been wanting to get into the goth scene for a while but due to controlling parents I wasn’t able to until I recently moved out. That being said how would y’all recommend someone from a smaller town find the local goth community?

What is the difference between Goth shows and Industrial shows (e.g. Combichrist)?

Edit: also why is combichrist on the list of problematic bands?

*I am aware of industrial music vs goth music but am wondering more about the vibes of the commumity

Combichrist is coming to my city to play at a local venue and I’m debating on going. For background, I’ve scratched the surface of Industrial but that’s it. With how large this sub-reddit is and the overlap between goth and industrial, I thought you all could give valuable information regarding the vibes of the show (music and attendees). I guess I’m just wondering if it will be a good show for goths that don’t listen to industrial or aggrotech much?

Thanks for the responses that may be given!(sorry if this is a strange question I’m autistic 😭)

Are mosh pits typical at goth shows?

I've never been to a goth show before, and i went to see French Police and was kind of taken back by all the people moshing, doesn't really seem like mosh kind of music.

Don’t be weird at shows please

I was at The Mission and The Chameleons last night in Seattle and at one point confetti went off during a song. A piece settled into the hair of a girl in front of me. The man standing next to me who WAS NOT WITH THE GIRL started to reach over to pick the confetti out of her hair. I pushed his arm away because don’t fucking touch strangers like that. Yeah it’s a show and you’re going to be pressed together to an extent but there was just something so gross about it.

It's updated regularly and is my main source for live shows/bands and also has goth DJ/dance night listings. Whomever this is/owns this site is frekin awesome and is doing the community a huge service.

Goth Songs prominently featured in movies or TV shows?

My partner and I were trying to think of goth songs that are prominently featured in movies and TV shows, like Bela Lugosi's Dead in The Hunger. The thing is that we were mostly coming up with songs that aren't actually goth (like Goodbye Horses in Silence of the Lambs) or are there but not featured (Love Cats in the background of an episode of NCIS.)

Can you think of any songs that are actually goth and featured in movies or tv shows?
