Dark Wave Dance Cave in Cleveland
It being Event Tuesday I thought I’d do a post about my night! I host Dark Wave Dance Cave here in Cleveland along with my co-host Mimi Dromette. Post covid we wanted to do something different from the gothic-industrial nights, so we created a night that was a mix of modern darkwave with new wave, synthpop, goth, and post-punk. We do lots of themed events, too, like World Goth Day and Discothèque Gothique, and Mimi designs a unique flyer every month. We always bring decorations to fit the theme and lots of lights – we turn The Winchester into a goth club for the night!
We’ve been lucky to have great crowds and a supportive venue – our regular nights usually attract over 300 patrons. It’s a diverse crowd… lots of goths, but also people from the LGBTQ community and other alt folk, too. So if you’re in Cleveland, passing through, or within road trip distance you should come check us out! The best way to keep up with us and learn more is our Instagram, and we put our setlists on Spotify (they vary a lot by event theme).
Our next event is this coming Saturday. There are also other fun Cleveland events like Nocturnal, I put together a guide to Cleveland events to help people keep track of things.

What do you think of Cold Cave?
Also, do you think they fit in the goth music criteria?
If so, what do you think?
I think they are good but they haven't grown on me yet

Nick Cave is not goth?
I love Nick Cave, have for years, but I just don’t see how he or his band(s) are goth. Is there just an album that I’ve been missing this whole time?
Also, why is he so often lumped into goth when other musicians of an equally different or weird sound aren’t? Is he just grandfathered in from the time when genres didn’t matter as much or from his past associations ? That’s the only thing I can think of.
Full disclosure, I don’t follow the genre arguments very closely anymore. I used to when I was younger but I got to a point where I realized how futile it is, especially in the face of music evolution and experimentation. I know some people take it much more seriously and I don’t mean to offend.
I was listening to Nick Cave a few minutes ago and just wanted to post this question to try to learn a bit more. Maybe my curiosity got the better of me. Any help would be appreciated.

Drab Majesty and Cold Cave tattoos
This is bit of a long shot but I saw a while back (IIRC) Cold Cave share a story on Instagram of a fan's tattoo of their logo, which was next to a Drab Majesty one. I've been trying to hunt down this picture for ages because I loved the placement of the Drab one (eyes and fan) on the back of the arm above the elbow. I don't suppose that person is around on this subreddit or anyone knows the photo I mean?
Also, please share your goth band tatts! I'd love to see them 🙂
