Recently took photos that I actually like
My husband got me this dress and corset from this alternative store that is strictly only in Seattle. It’s so hard shopping there because I want the whole store. Most of things I do own are thrifted, given to me, or I purchase secondhand from depop. The same goes for any jewelry I own. They either were hand-me-downs, I found thrifting or purchased from antique malls.

Is Arabian Nights by Siouxsie and the Banshees actually racist?
I don't know if this falls under the Throwback Thursday flair or the Discussion flair. Apologies.
This question started because I was looking at the lyrics for Hong Kong Garden and saw that the lyrics were a bit iffy. As far as I know this has been explained by Siouxsie to be things that she heard in the restaurant. However, I fell into another rabbit hole and saw people saying that Arabian Nights was definitely racist towards Arabs. I personally never thought that way about the song and thought it was about the horrific amount of r@pe and SA in that area. I just wonder what y'all think; is Arabian Nights racist?

What bands/songs are actually goth?
(I hope I used the right flair)
I'm rlly confused cuz I'm going through posts in this sub of ppl asking if specific bands are goth and I always see different answers in each thing? I'm very new to Gothic culture and music since I'm a baby bat, and I don't quite get what makes songs goth so I'm kinda relying on what people say on here but each post says a different thing! Some people say the cure isn't goth but I've always heard that they are. I'm not sure abt strawberry switchblade. I see some songs by the smiths in goth playlists sometimes but I've seen posts that say the only goth song they have is 'suffer little children'. I saw ppl say some malice mizer songs are goth as well. Overall I'm just confused on what music is actually considered Gothic??? I'd like to know what music would be acceptable/correct to put in a goth playlist as I'm trying to compile my own of songs I actually like. Also, any reccomendations for more female led bands or dreamy/upbeat goth would be awesome. Thanks for ur time <33

i’ve seen quite a few people online talking about people thinking goth music is just screaming and i don’t understand why anyone would think that. if people DO really think that, what gave them that idea?

Who else didn’t actually get to “look goth” until their 20s? Or older?
So, I got super deep into the goth subculture at 17, and I was a monster high kid in middle school so who’s rlly surprised? I’d say that was my first exposure to gothic things, back when I loved my monster high dolls at 11-13 while simultaneously dipping my toes into the world of emo and metal and something of the complete opposite, kpop 😭 but anyways at 16/17 I started listening to goth artists a lot, so I say thats when I officially started being goth. I never got to actually LOOK goth tho, even tho I wanted to. I’m currently overcoming social anxiety and body image issues and gender related issues that prevented me from dressing the way I wanted, so now that I’ve recently turned 20, I’ve decided this will be when I start expressing myself to the fullest, without a care. I don’t want a repeat of my teens. And the problem is, I have this silly little complex about being 20 and only now doing this, since I could’ve been doing it since high school. Ik its so so stupid to think that 20 is “too late” for anything but its kinda hard to ignore when ppl my age are constantly talking about how “old” they are.

Addressing “Actually, goth is a kind of literature and architecture…” Arguments
So I was thinking about how people online are always trying to use the "goth culture is actually an appreciation of a genre of literature, art, architecture, etc. so really it's 🌈✨whatever you want it to be✨🌈" argument and I think I finally thought of a good way to explain to them how badly that logic is flawed.
I tend to use metalheads as a parallel for goths since it's pretty widely accepted to the mainstream that metalheads are simply people who like metal music. But you wouldn't go up to a metalhead saying that you're the REAL metalhead because you're obsessed with steel and aluminium, right? "Ummmmm actually, metal is an opaque, lustrous element which acts as a good conductor of heat and electricity, so really YOU'RE the idiot here and if you don't have a degree in metallurgy and a tattoo of the chemical symbol of at least one rare earth metal you're not REALLY a metalhead." Like you know damn well that's not what we're talking about here, you're just being intentionally dense and using the wrong context of the word to justify taking it for yourself and strongarming the people who started the subculture out for your own gain.
Feel free to copy paste if you spot someone pulling that trash argument out in the wild😂

Here’s the outfit I wore to my school dance! I tried to go for a gothic victorian kinda look. What do you think? :) I’m not a goth I’m actually more goblin/cottagecore so I don’t actually know much about gothic fashion, but I hope this does it justice! Goths are so cool
