Lots of appreciation for Second Still’s Violet Phase LP

Tracks like Mouse, Double Negative and Eternal Love deserve people's attention I think. It's more musically advanced than lots of other goth and darkwave music I hear. They use lots of borrowed chords like The Frozen Autumn. So their chord progressions have a myriad of dark counterpoint curveballs. The stuff that catches you by surprise in a good way. They have fun with time too. Tracks like New Violet alternate between 6/4 and 4/4 time. Tracks like Mouse are in 4/4 but use odd numbers when repeating bars. Still remains dance-able regardless. Yet never firmly sounding in the club at any point. So it doesn't feel out of place listening to it at home. Perfect for overcast days.

It hits me in a way and I have seen it do the same to other people I've shown this LP to. This was the release that had their sound clicking for me and put them on my map. Highly recommended!

Did your friends and family assume goth was going to be a phase for you?

It wasn't a phase, mom! I was fifteen then. Over three decades later, here I still am. Yes, I did take an extended break from goth in my university years. I still wore black, but I stopped listening to the music. For the longest time, the music conjured up PTSD-related memories due to a catastrophic falling-out with an eldergoth friend.

Good old Christian Mom, when I was a babybat: "What are you doing with those candles and incense?" Before you guess that she asked me about devil worship—you're absolutely right! She did ask about devil worship!

I had to do a lot of explaining about the subculture. To my family, to the friends I'd alienated, to the public.

I don't look as extreme now, but I've got this subculture in my DNA. There's so much new music. I'm floored by the amount. I've set a personal goal to listen to ten albums per day, indefinitely, but at least for a year. I'm single and I'm studying online, so I can afford to.

Did your family assume that goth was going to be a phase for you? How did people react in your babybat days?

How do you deal with comments such as “It’s just a phase”?

Maybe I'm overreacting, but this gets me really mad. If I think someone is going through a phase whatever it may be, I will not say a word because it's just rude.

I'm a 23 old woman and last saturday was at my older sister's birthday party (she is 35 and everyone there except me and my bf was about the same age) and she and some friends told me "When I/your sister/someone I know… was your age, we too dressed as you, but now we are open to new horizonts and like every musical genre too!!'', I mean, cool I guess?

People don't seem to understand I do not only listen to goth music, I like a lot of other genres too, I simply wear black because it's a colour that makes me feel comfortable. They speak as they were enlightened beings because they are not alt anymore, and this pisses me off.
