40-something Goths getting back into going out?
I was very active in the goth scene in my late teen / 20s and then started a career and just had no time. I’m in my 40s and started going out to dance nights and there to reconnect with this part of my world. I’ve noticed that there’s a lot of elder goths out there and felt very welcome. Many of us are bringing it with style! Dancing again was really good for my dark and neglected soul.
If you’re in your 40s-50s do you still go out dancing? What has your experience been like?

Is anyone going to Dark Force?
So I'm kinda on the fence about going to this one, mainly for logistical reasons. I really dig the line up and I'm very much in need of a fun weekend. I'm kinda late to the party on it though, I guess the hotel their throwing it at is all sold out. Anyway, I know next to nothing about Jersey. I'm not sure where to go for hotels, I've been checking around online. I don't really have any friends that would be interested in coming with so I'm on my own for it. Anyway, is anyone here going? If so what do you plan to do for lodging, food, ect? Or really any other info. Thanks in advance!

Really good video if you want to understand what’s going on within *that* Facebook group.
Take this down if it doesn’t fit.
But what I found the most interesting was how many people with this Facebook group, utterly detest goth music to such a degree. They hate it. Hate its founders. And can’t understand why anyone would listen or form a community around it.
However, they are the type of people who will say that to be goth is not to listen to the music. They all say that it is a mindset, a style, an aesthetic, a historical group, spooky, scary, all of that, but refuse to ever say that the music means anything, and that’s why rhetoric which dismisses goth music as the key to the goth subculture is so harmful.
Goth music is quite literally the one thing which keeps these assholes out on the sidelines because they hate it, aesthetics and fashion does not! Nazi’s and conservatives are like those parasites which infect weak insects, control their bodies and lead them to their colony to continue the infection. The swatskia, totenkoph, skinheads, are just a few examples of Nazi’s co-opting and taking ahold of aesthetics to force their ideology.
They will use aesthetics to draw in the masses under a guise of the dark innocence and the they use it as a way to promote their ideology. Regardless of how you feel about goth and it’s relation to music, I think it’s quite obvious how decentralizing the music to replace it with a “mindset” or those who “feel goth”, just leaves more room for those who “feel goth”, but are also bigots. That’s what I gathered.
I read someone’s comment, and please take credit for it, but they said it isn’t gatekeeping we need, it’s standards and I must agree. That community hates goth and all it stands for, no room for them at all!

Going alone to goth club- advice needed.
I'm a 25-year-old black woman who recently gave up all her social media. ( ive been fully presenting as goth for about 5 years now in my attire and the fashion has really helped me gain some confidence. I used to just listen to the mucis but had no taste for fashion, now ive gotten a bit better at looking the way I want. )
I'm attending a goth dance event for the first time on Friday by myself and I suffer from being a bit awkward and super shy. Are there tips on how I can navigate the bar/dance scene and make friends?
I really want to put myself out there and gain a bit more confidence. Is there advice for anyone who has gone to events alone?

Wanting to show off what I’m going for in my DIY jacket for now
This is the first jacket I've dared to paint by hand, and I'm quite happy with how it's turning out (IGNORING THE FIVE TEETH ON TOP AND BOTTOM, OH MY GOD, HOW COULD I HAVE MADE SUCH A MISTAKE). But I've been thinking that maybe it needs something more for a more '80s aesthetic. Perhaps more bands from that era? I'm not sure. What do you think? If I need to send more photos of certain areas of the jacket, I'd be happy to.

My experience going to my first goth event in Paris (excluding concerts)
Hello (m23) so i went to my very first goth event in Paris last saturday. I was pretty hyped up because i never went to a goth event besides concerts. At first when i saw the ad i was a bit hesitant because it was literally made with A.I. So u got my ticket along with my two friends but before that we went to a bar and one of my friends told us that they went before to this event and it was filled with far right dudes and creeps and i was shocked because i always had this idea of goth places being critically safe (mind you i never went to a goth bar since there are 0 in paris lol) and i told them "i know you're joking" and they replied with "you'll see". When we got there around midnight it was nearly empty and slowly people were coming in. My friend is pretty known in the community here so they talked with alot of people and one of them was this 60 yo creep. When my friend went to the bathroom they met this 60yo creep that by my friend's words literally picked them up from the ground and i don't really remember this correctly but i think he kissed their cheek, i don't really remember if he did or no but just the fact that HE picked THEM up is just disturbing mind you my friend is 21yo, the day after she showed me screenshots of this dude literally flirting with them and triple texting them. Also my friends were right, the place is filled with fascists, there was this tall guy whenever he danced people literally went away i am not kidding and on everything i love. I asked my other friend because i always take things with a grain of salt and she told me she sees him in her university sitting with other fascists and they participate in such activities. I would lie if i said i didn't have fun because i did, i made new friends they are so lovely, the music was sooo good and it warms my heart seeing people having fun overall. I know that as goths we don't claim these kind of people but it makes me sad. Would i do this again ? 30% chance yeah i went for the experience.

Possible abuse going forward
Good timezone everyone.
It has come to our attention that a certain group may be using content from here, by us mods and our members in nefarious and defamatory ways.
We do not know if it has already started or if it may happen or not.
We were warned that this group may be fabricating posts by altering text in screenshots etc. To make it look like illegal activities are taking place.
This group started attacking us and others due to the problematic band list we have made, for people to use at their own discretion (as stated in the wiki page for it), not strictly forbidding them. The evidence is mostly from the bands or members of the bands themselves.
Stay safe out there, and always report abuse and any harassment to us as always.
Thank you.
