Teen Gothic

I'm tired of not being able to dress or even say that I'm goth because it's going to be taken in a more sexual way than anything else, I'm tired of posting a picture and having weird people write obscene things to me. No matter how alternative you make yourself look, there's always going to be someone who comments something sexual and it's disgusting. Internet culture has greatly distorted the meaning of being goth and now everyone who claims to be interested in that type of people is only talking about e-girls with black lipstick and tight black clothes.

since i was young and absolutely fell in love with tim burton’s films, i have yet to see many people who look like me, and it gets in my head. it feels like goth style revolves around the pale skin, straight hair aesthetic, and though i’ve seen a few black goths, i rarely see any with natural hair, for example. feels like the very core of goth fashion encourages me to feel not good enough.

i know there are some out there, i just don’t know where to look. if there are any black goths with natural hair or people who know individuals like that, i’d be really really interested in seeing how they do their makeup and hairstyles. lately i’ve just felt so not-myself.

I’ll start out by saying I’m super grateful to even have a goth club in my area, but that being said, I feel like every time I go, they play the same handful of 80’s post punk songs over and over again. I love The Cure, I love Siouxsie, but for the love of god, there’s so much other good goth music out there! I’ve been really into exploring newer bands and I’m glad there are musicians out there trying to keep the scene alive. Why aren’t clubs supporting them more? Does everyone else in attendance also just want to hear the same thing every time? Am I the problem?

What has your experience been like if you’re a regular at any goth clubs?

I am going anyway. Fellow 50 plus goths, how do you motivate yourself to go to shows? I am going because I promised my daughter I would go out on a school night but tomorrow is going to be murder.

i have no idea if this is a "me" issue but at my school, people have been just been annoying about me being a goth.

people make stupid comments like "you're goth, your opinion is invalid" like, excuse me? wtf- stop. like what made goths opinions invalid? like i seriously can't wrap my head around that.

they also make the classic "oh, you're a goth, so you're an edgelord" garbage like- will people just stop being ignorant-
