I feel a little disappointed in the gothic scene, it wasn’t what I thought it would be. Storytime.

When I was in puberty, I always dreamed of going out and meeting people with this style in my country. As I got older and was close to entering the scene, I received warnings about the level of toxicity among groups of friends. I thought they were just exaggerations. But the truth is that I have come to realize it. Pure gossip and fighting. Toxicity over the question of whether you are a "real goth" or not and even racism. There are groups of people in their 40's and 50's and I'm also with groups of 17-20 year olds (as you know sometimes it doesn't end well).

Goth archives/publications from the 80s/90s

I was personally curious if there was anything throughout the underground that was circulating, particularly UK, going around circles in the time period of 1987-1991? Publications, fanzines, articles, anything of the sort would be appreciated. Even if I can’t be directed to any particular issue or medium, anything with a name would be appreciated!

Do any other adult goths/alt people have to deal with ageist mindsets?

I(22F) have been BIG TIME into darkly inclined stuff and horror movies and alternative stuff in general ever since I was very very young and I have recently gotten into goth music and im finally dressing the way that I want since I have a job with my own money saved up. Now also keep in mind, I don't have my license yet bc I've been anxious about driving but my moms helping me get used to it. One morning I overheard my dad say some shit along the lines of "Shes obviously mentally 15 with the way she dresses and sets her room up you just gotta wait for her to grow up a little" like somehow my style makes me not a "mental adult". Do any other 20+ alt people have to deal with infantalizing mindsets like this?

anyone else notice this weird narrative going around?

Not sure if it's been something that's been around for a long time but I'm noticing people(mainly on social media) getting annoyed at goth people and saying its their only personality and that music and cloths shouldn't define who you are? It's kinda weird because it implies that all goth people live 24/7 only talking about Gothic stuff as if we are one dimensional which is impossible and completely untrue goth people don't only do goth things why are people getting mad at things they made up in their head it's so silly
