I feel like I’m not goth enough

Hi. I feel like I'm not goth enough to be considered goth. I'm really low maintenance because I have chronic exhaustion. I wear all black all the time I love the culture and I love the music, it's what I grew up on.

I just feel like I don't look goth, I know there's different sub cultures but I don't think my appearance fits any of them. I have dark hair and I have a lot of facial piercings but when it comes to makeup and how I dress I don't feel goth enough. I can't really afford nice gothic clothes and tbh I don't even like my body because I just feel like in order to be considered goth I need to be thin, which I'm not. I don't think that about others, just myself.

When it comes to makeup and accessories I just never have the energy to do it anymore, when I do I love it but it's very rare that I'm able to.

Have other people experienced this? Is there a subculture of low maintenance goths?

Graveyard Whispers – Feel The Wrath (‘90s Goth Parody band from San Diego)

Just got a copy of this tape from the singer of Cattle Decapitation who joined this band toward the end and mostly added sampler stuff. It was a side band of a kinda proggy San Diego band called Upsilon Acrux. Trying to figure out how to upload the music. Anybody else got this?

Do you feel oversexualized as a goth?

It has become a prominent stereotype now that guys would be more interested in us than in girls dressed more ordinarily. I have personally experienced a level of fetishization multiple times, so I wonder if others have also experienced that. Even if you haven't, do you think this stereotype is true, and if so, why is that?

How do you feel about “gothabilly” [discussion]

Hi all. I've been around the goth scene for awhile, and find the subculture to be beautiful and interesting. I consider myself a part of the community 🙂

I ran across a subgenre of goth called gothabilly, which I have fallen in love with. It's a mix of hillbilly and goth. It's such an odd but unique combination and as someone who has been born and raised in the south, it definitely calls to me lol.

So what are your opinions on it?

Curious- how do you all feel about a drummer vs synthesized drums live?

As the title says, curious to hear how other goths feel about bands using a drummer vs drum machine/pre recorded/synth drums live

Anyone else not “look goth” and feel like they don’t belong?

I (M) have identified as goth most of my life, but I struggle with feeling like I don't belong because I don't dress like a stereotypical "goth".

Although I do wear a decent amount of black (which I LOVE), it's generally not very "alternative" style.

I don't have tattoos, and no piercings, etc. (though in my heart I do)

Many days I look and dress like a typical person. Like, most days if someone saw me they would never guess I was goth. I know lots of people who identify as goth could say the same, but still.

I DO however have dark, witchy, goth decor in my apartment, and I'm a regular at my city's local goth club (the one place I do dress in an outwardly goth style).

But I still feel like an imposter sometimes. Do others struggle with that? I know this might all sound superficial, maybe it's just in my head. Other perspectives might help me. Thanks!

I feel shameful of being goth. Any advice?

I am a casual goth dresser. I've got typically accessory, wearing only shades with exception of rings, and an active goth listener.

However I feel as if lately that I feel ashamed of myself for being intrigued by morbid culture. It feels like that's "me" but I've been doubting myself.

Being goth has always been a beautiful concept to me. Finding an identity that made so much sense to me but I just feel rejected in a sense by society. Please any advice so that I could stop caring? I feel insecure.
