TIL I’m a goth

Let me explain. I'm a late 40s guy who probably endured the same kind of alienating youth that a lot of goths experience. For me it was the late 80s/early 90s and I found solace in the Sisters of Mercy, Ministry, Sex Pistols, Joy Division, and a lot of other great music. Most of my friends were into metal, but metal didn't do it for me. I preferred Siouxsie and NiN. My 'friends' hated my music. I didn't care.

Except for that one friend who was what was considered back then a goth. I still remember her fondly – the black lace and makeup and how awesome she looked. For me, my look was just black jeans, a T, with a leather jacket or trench coat. I didn't consider myself goth but that was my look.

Somehow people in goth outfits showed on my TL recently and it was a throwback for me. So appealing. I started doing some reading and had a good convo, dug a bit deeper, and realized wow, I am a goth, inside, and even at my age I want to express this part of me, rediscover this aspect of myself. Embrace the music that I love and find others who love it too. Not sure what's out there for me at my age but eager to connect with others.

That's all. Just happy to have discovered this. Before today I wouldn't have said I belonged, but today I realized I do and it feels good.
