I’m writing a song and looking for some imagery. Were you a small town goth when there wasn’t a whole lot to do in your town? What did you and your significant other do on a date?

Hi all, I am an old punk but I was around a lot of Goths around probably 1993 '94. From what I remember it was kind of the very beginning of a scene that got bigger later on in the '90s.

I'm writing a country album about my experiences and couple of the characters are goth kids. The setting is a small town, the type of place where weirdos who grew up in the surrounding rural counties would have congregated. Think college towns or tourist towns that ended up with like an LGBT community or other weirdos. I was personally in Asheville at the time but that was not at all like Asheville is today. At the time there were a very small number of weirdos/artsy types in small towns, as it was a lot harder to find subculture since there wasn't really an internet.

The folks I actually knew back in the mid '90s are no longer reachable.

Help me out with some memories: What did you do that was part of Goth subculture when you were being romantic, flirty, mysterious seductive with your significant other "back in the day"?

Was your significant other also part of the that scene? What would date night have looked like? What about if you lived together and had a date night at your place?

I dated one of these pagan goth folks for a while and we were part of a scene that was into the occult. Kinda remember a lot of tarot cards and candles and red wine but I wasn't very serious about the occult part which makes my memories kind of hazy about what my significant other was doing much of the time when we were hanging out.

We and lots of other weirdos used to go to an old cemetery, not that all surprisingly. There was some hanging out on rooftops downtown and a little bit of 'by the railroad tracks' stuff but I'm really looking for suggestions on what to make my characters do indoors on date night because it's relevant to a song. Right now I have a couple of different songs where people are messing around with tarot cards in the candle light but I can't reuse that same image for multiple songs

Looking up gothic bands from other countries than the US and UK.

I don’t know if anybody else does this, but sometimes when the usual gothic rock bands from the US and the UK isn’t doing it for me, I’ll look up gothic bands from other countries. Mexico, Japan, France, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Germany to name a few. In fact I’m currently trying to familiarize myself with the gothic bands of Mexico. I love trying to find new bands and artists in the genre that I haven’t heard of.

Looking for newer darkwave stuff

I've been in the scene for a little over three years now and don't get me wrong, there are indeed some classics that I absolutely adore. I've explored a couple different sounds but when it comes to choosing one, I'm more likely to pick Vandal Moon or Bragolin over The March Violets or Bauhaus. I can't seem to find much similar to that

Looking for a funeral song

I am organising the funeral of my ex husband who took his life. We are having quite a bit of life music (he used to be in a band) but I would like to have something more church like sounding that is goth or dark wave (best with orchestra or violins) but has not the morbid lyrics he liked. Something that doesn’t spook relatives or other people. I was thinking „love me to the end“ by deine lakeien. (Don’t know if that is goth considered by this sub? But he heard that and considered himself part of the subcultures) Any other ideas?

Looking for an evaluation of Rozz Williams’ discography

I recently started trying to get to grips with Christian Death, which has led me to discover the mess that is their discography. I don't like the stuff involving Valor. On the other hand, there is a bunch of stuff that Rozz recorded as "Christian Death featuring Rozz Williams" and under other names.

What would be really handy is if someone had written a discussion and review of all the records. It seems like something a hardcore fan might do, but does such a resource actually exist? Grateful for any help!

(I considered posting this appeal in the RozzWilliams reddit, but that seems to be almost dead at this point.)

I’m looking for more music suggestions, I’ll put what I generally listen to and describe what I usually look for to see if anyone can make anymore suggestions!

I tend to look for songs with either powerful vocals or powerful instrumentals. An immediate turn off for me is when the vocals are completely overshadowed by the instrumentals.

I know a lot of the music I will place here to show what I mean will likely not be goth, since I'm still learning about the Goth scene. But all suggestions are good suggestions imo. Also if any of them are Goth inform me. I want to make a goth playlist on my Spotify and knowing is half the battle. Plus I want to be able to learn to have a better ear to tell what genres are what.

Ice Queen – Within Temptation

Jazmine Bean – Piggie

Jack Off Jill – Vivica

Neoni (Ft. Savage Ga$ p) – Knives

Darling Violetta – A Smaller God

Pierce the Veil – Disasterology

Paramore – Ignorance

My Chemical Romance – I'm Not Okay (I Promise)

Chase Petra – Monet Issues

Tony22 – Earth Boy

Halsey – Control

AViVA – The Saint and The Sinner

Looking for lesser-known pre-90’s music

I’m writing a script, and I wanted to include a scene where a surgeon listens to music while performing an operation. I wanted to not have them listen to opera or classical music, which I feel is a really common thing in movies and television. Any good recommendations?
