got told i looked like a goth qtip and i think that insult is gonna live with me forever bc imo it's fucking hilarious

For starters, I’ve dealt with stares and name-calling for the majority of my life due to the way I dress and present myself. I’ve had photos taken of me with nasty captions and people asking me to show them my wrist, and for the most part I’m use to it, but lately it’s seem to have gotten worse with people yelling it out loud in public for everyone to hear.

I was at the state fair and had a group of guys run up to me in line asking me if I made porn, telling me they liked my costume (“oh wait.. thats just how you look”) and laughing obnoxiously loud while people just looked away. It was really uncomfortable and anytime I ran into them again they’d just KEEP going. That same week me and my friends were harassed and followed in public again, getting called the “wrist cutters” “suicide squad” “hookers” followed by them asking for our socials over and over again.

So for those who also deal with this or have had similar experiences, how do you deal with it? Any advice is much appreciated.

Hello! I’m currently in my last year and I am doing research on hate crime and alternative appearance. In the UK the attacks based on alternative appearance are not considered hate crime. The Law commission's final report concluded that attacks based on alternative appearance are not considered hate crimes, however the available evidence is not sufficient enough. I have personally been attacked due to my appearance and wanted to do something about it.

This is my final year dissertation and I'm looking for participants, who are part of an alternative subculture. The survey is completely anonymous, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

The criteria for participating are the following:

– over 18

– resident of the UK

– has body modifications/ alternative appearance/ is a part of an alternative subculture

i usually just walk off, but recently i was put in a situation where i wasn’t able to do so.

and i’m not necessarily talking about off the cuff comments, catcalling or bad jokes, rather somebody clearly seeing you and treating you as less-than, solely because of how you look.

i wouldn’t mind taking a dig at them as well lol i’m just naturally very polite and nervous, which always stops me.

any advice?
