I’ve noticed many younger people in the goth subculture gravitating towards Aaliyah, especially in the African American goth community, even though she was not goth herself. Made me think, what other figures have been co opted by goths that weren’t themselves part of the subculture?

Goth youtubers that talk about the community and subculture?

The only goth youtubers I ever see are people that are goth, but they're content is unrelated. Do you know of of anyone that talks about the music and culture?

A video that I love showing to people whenever they ask, “what is goth music?” She gives such a great sampler of the multiple types of sounds that define our community

what do you all think of the use of photoshop and digital editing within the goth community?

One of the biggest things I do not understand is the commonality of digital editing within society. I don’t use most of my social medias anymore as I hate the way people are falsely representing themselves. I find it harmful for the people who unknowingly are misled. But, I didn’t expect to see these “goth” subreddits and the many posters editing their appearances with mods doing nothing. It sucks that the subculture has now fallen victim to the harmful pressures of the societal norms to be perfect when we originally became “goth” to avoid it. I suppose that’s my take, but I am curious about what other people think.

Research survey about the relationships between the LGBTQIA+ community and alternative subcultures

Hello wonderful goths of reddit 🙂

I've made a survey for research for my university dissertation about the relationship between the LGBTQIA+ community and alternative music subcultures. As part of that, I am also discussing ideas around safe space and whether or not safe space is a good thing. Goth is a very prevalent and important subculture, but I don't know much about it's relationship with the LGBTQIA+ community, so I'd really love to hear your thoughts! If you could spare 5 minutes to fill out my survey I'd really appreciate it 🙂

I have a longtime obsession with Rosetta Stone. Any suggestions from the community of similar groups or acts?

Alright, where to begin.

Developed my love for goth rock and any other dark genres associated, starting 20 years ago.

One group I cant find anything super similar to is Rosetta Stone. Something about Porl King's singing style, maybe the fact most of it is electronic… im not certain why, but i love Rosetta Stone over all of the other groups. I literally own every vinyl record Rosetta Stone has produced.

Ive seen some excellent taste in this subreddit, and hoping you all can give me a hand in expanding my music playlist, and vinyl collection if possible. Thank you all for being awesome.

There are Christians in the Goth community?

That's a genuine question, from a Christian who's not inserted in the Goth community. Let me explain.

I heard about this zine called "Death to the World", which is a zine written by american Orthodox Christian Monks, directed to the punk public.

Yesterday, I saw a video from a girl who's clearly into goth fashion, but she was talking about the Bible and the Gospel.

As a horror writter and Christian – not a very popular combination -, I am always thinking about how other Christians are merging and participating in other subcultures, but also how people from alternative subcultures are being accepted inside the church.

So, what do you have for me? There are a lot of Christians in the goth scene? Have you ever saw any of them?

Anyone else notice some rising anti-trans sentiment within the goth community?

While it is still low, there seems to be a number of goths or those that claim to be who are openly anti-trans. I wouldn't say its just limited to opinions on the use of pronouns but on all trans identities directly.

Do you think it has the potential to become problematic? How do you view this? Is it mostly online in your opinion? I personally think it's low and mostly online.

In the 90s/2000s there was very fringe death in june and neo-folk/powerelectronics fans, and even rarer officially traditionally conservative or far right actual goths, who sometimes were open about their views in goth clubs. Outside of these people, you'd occasionally stubble upon open homophobia and racism, a bit more than today (hard to asses that properly to be fair), but in the last 5 years or so it was mostly people who at least for the most part barely knew enough about the music spouting alt-right talking points from the internet and claiming to be "goth"

I've just noticed this anti-trans thing, which is barely a thing, in the last year or so. What are your thoughts?
