How do you differentiate between standard post-punk and gothic rock? (Like the dark post punk gothic rock)
I can definitely differentiate in many cases but I’m curious to how to properly differentiate it music wise because a lot of gothic rock sounds like standard post-punk and whenever I hear a post punk song I wonder if it’s gothic rock, ik lyrical themes play a big role and all but I wanna know how to properly tell the difference, I’m still learning about the subculture so I’m open to learning.

What’s your fave newer/active goth rock band?
I'm looking for new music to add to my late autumnal, Party for the Dead playlist.
Thank you!
(I would link the playlist but I'm not allowed to)

Looking for members for a darkwave/ goth rock band in LA area
Hi everyone, my name is Angelo and I am looking for members to start a darkwave band inspired by Cocteau Twins, She Past Away, Twin Tribes, Bauhaus.
I am looking for anyone who plays guitar, bass or keys, at any skill level.
If you live in the greater LA area and are interested in forming a group, feel free to send me a dm or reply to this ad.

why does coldwave seem to be such an obscure subgenre compared to the other goth rock subgenres?
it's almost always listed by people when listing goth rock subgenres, but i can't think of many classic bands in the genre, other than little nemo, coldreams, and lost desert (and maybe modern eon? idk). i can think of more modern coldwave bands than old school ones despite the subgenre seemingly being a cornerstone of goth rock. it's definiitely less obscure than say grey rock or grave wave, but still
feel free to leave coldwave recs for me, i feel like i need more to listen to

Goth Rock Tone
Does anyone have any tips on how to get a good goth rock guitar tone in the same vein as Skeletal Family, March Violets or Love Like Blood? Be it recs for specific pedals or amps or whatever. Like could I get by with just a decent distortion and reverb pedal?
