Im going to see The Mission live tomorrow.

It’s weird to think that after 6 years I’m finally going to be able to see one of my favorite bands. It’s been a awhile since they done a show in my country so I’m pumped that they are not only doing a tour in Latin America but that my city is also on the list.

Any Brazilians here that will also be on the mission show ?

Going to a local goth event alone where you don’t know anyone

So I wanna go to this event on Long Island but I have no one to go with so I’ll likely be going alone. I’m autistic and a loner so Ive struggle to have go to friendships over the last couple of years as well as currently being single atm. There’s a huge goth scene in nyc but it’s pretty rare that they have these events on Long Island where the venue is literally 15 mins from your house so I wanna take advantage of it. How do you navigate a situation like this?

I don’t even know what I was going for, but I like how it turned out.

I took off some patches to cover up the old The Smiths logo I painted on there so I need to add them back.

Going to goth nights alone is better than not going at all.

Back in November I started going to goth nights by myself. My first night felt mega awkward because I had no clue how to dress, didn’t know anything about etiquette and didn’t know what to expect. Since then, I’ve only missed one show. It’s my new favorite thing. It’s something I look forward to the most each month.

To someone else, I probably look bored and like a borderline creeper at these. I usually find a spot to sit or something to lean against. I’m not a dancer, I’m a musician, so I’m there with a different perspective. I keep to myself because I only know a small handful of people and they aren’t always there. I’m the type that is shy unless someone talks to me first.

One of the coolest things about not being a dancer is the opportunity for people watching. I’m not talking about checking out clothes or makeup, but being able to be still and appreciate the world. It’s cool to see groups of friends having a good time. It’s good to see other solo people doing their own thing. It’s so good to see people BE THEMSELVES and escape the world a little while. One of the regular dancers played her first live DJ set this weekend. So dang cool to see someone take that step.

If you are ever on the fence about going alone, do it. Don’t put it off because it might be awkward or uncomfortable. Go dance, go listen, go hide in a dark corner with your arms crossed. You will have the time of your life.

Going to goth nights?

hi all, sorry if my formatting is terrible as I'm on mobile here. I wanted to know how often you attend goth club nights etc? There have been quite a few in my city but I've not been able to go any so far as pretty much unanimously no one will go with me and I don't feel like it's safe to go by myself. How do you make friends who are happy to go to these kinds of events with you? I'm finding missing out on such a key part of my subculture is really depressing me so I'd like advice on how to build relationships that would help with that kind of thing, as well as juat asking whether going much (or at all) is sustainable for the people here. Thank you for your time!

Going To A Goth Club As Non-Goth

So I’ve been listening to some goth music and seeing how people dance to it and it seems like a lot of fun. While I’m not goth (I dress fairly basic) I’m very into 90s alt, hardcore, and nu-metal. When I’m dancing at a party to pop or rap I feel very trapped and insecure but goth dancing seems very free flowing and fun. I also want to meet new people and stuff. Should I go and how should I dress with the limited stuff I have?

What is going on with the “Is this goth? Is this goth?” discourse that has absolutely flooded the sub lately?

It seems like Goth has become this cryptic over-mythologised monolith of a thing which none of us can emulate. All these users scrambling here with their lists and their questions about subgenres and fear of being seen as poseurs…

We need to ban these posts and ask the mods to make a pinned post saying "your goth is valid" or some crap because it's pitiful seeing people worry about whether they can consider themselves goth. Bro, if you're here, you're goth! Do what you like. But most of all, DON'T limit yourself.

It's concerning to see the term distorted by the internet (mainly tiktok) into something that makes me even question how well I belong here. Can we nip this in the bud and return to our batcaves, please?

Longtime lurker. Worried about the subculture becoming bigger than itself and putting off daunted newcomers!

Anyway, stream Five Ten Fiftyfold.

Doors open at 2:00 PM, so come by early to see what local vendors have in shop. Later in the day we have performances by Evilization, Duderella and Casa De Brujas who will be showing off their new music video for their song "Queen of the Dead". This is a 21+ event, sorry kiddos.
