Teen Gothic

hello everyone, I'm a young person who isn't working yet because I'm still on my way of getting a degree, but one of my teachers (a subject in my country called basic military training) at school has problems with my long nails and punishes my squad's leader for my long nails. I've never thought about it much, but I was struck with the reality of having to restrict yourself from looks related decisions because your study/workplace doesn't allow it, for example in some workplaces you aren't allowed to have a tattoo, a piercing and so on. how do you deal with that? it's really overwhelming and frustrating to me that the joy of customizing my character is being/going to be taken away from me.

This is very random of me but I’m just starting to see it more and more over the years. Just a basic background I’m a brown asian guy in the UK, I’ve been alt since I was in the early years of high school (i didnt even know about the word or meaning of alt at that point) and over the years its just become fully my lifestyle.

But what I really don’t see a lot of is other brown alt people (any subculture), its every once in a blue moon. I go to shows and gigs and concerts but theres nobody else most of the time. I’m just wondering if anybody else notices this or maybe if you do fit this description, let me know your thoughts.

Maybe it’s cultural or religious restrictions (they were whats deterred me at least), or maybe I’m looking at it wrong? idk

Also this is not in any way an attack or blame on anyone or anything, it’s just something I want others opinions on. This is kinda UK specific also since I feel like theres a bigger proportion of brown alt ppl in other countries.

One of my more local venues is having a friday the 13th event and Im itching to go!!! I would be going alone and want to start going to make friends! I don't really have any right now so feeling very lonely at the moment lol. My main issue is that I've never been to any sort of club before and don't drink! Hi, Firstly let me start of by saying I hope I'm not violating rule #1 on this subreddit as I hope this post is relevant enough to the subcalture and Idk where else I could post this discussion. But if it does violate community guidelines in some way, mods please let me know where a more appropriate place to post this discussion would be. Now on to my main point. What initially got me thinking about this topic was when I first heard the cover of "Jolene" by Tears for the Dying. I love that cover and strongly urge anyone to give it a listen for themselves if they haven't already. Other covers I really like are "The mercy seat" by nick cave and the Bad seeds, "Dear Prudence" by Souxie and the Banshees, and "The Witch" by Rosetta Stone. There are lots of older dark country and folk songs that I'd love to see covered by a goth bands such as the song "Long Black Vail" it's such as dark atmospheric country song and I think what could only make it better is if it was covered by a post-punk, dark wave, or gothic rock band

As seen here, though to be completely fair, one of his photos looks AI-upscaled, but I'd argue that's nowhere near creating things using AI.

I discovered the band through Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines that, after it assaulted every sense in my body with an overdose of 2000s that i didn't knew i so desperately needed to sate my nostalgia, introduced me to a plethora of incredible goth and non-goth artists and bands that i couldn't understand how i had never heard before given my interests in music were very closely aligned. I don't know if i qualify as goth but gothic imagery, films, literature, music, video & tabletop games and fashion captivate me to no end. Gothic influenced music in particular i was introduced to from a very young age thanks to my dad.

Among them was Darling Violetta and while their A Smaller God is pure eargasm, its Second Skin that left the deepest mark in me. Somber, sincere, intimate and full of adoration one can only dream of. Yet at the same time tragic, toxic, obsessive and desperate. Most people agree that it speaks of a ghoul (vampiric thrall) longing for her vampire master but in reality i think its simply about a relationship that has either fallen apart and at least one lover is still trying to dream about it OR its about a relationship fighting to become "too good to be true" but fails, yet it has some moments that reach very close to that goal, further fueling the unattainable dream. Depending on the mood i am happy to interpret it as either meaning or both. Still, to me it is an entrancing, romantic and dark. It preplexes me, it mesmerizes me. I want to share it with someone special. Its a piece of music that in these days fuels my inspiration to write and create and gives me comfort in my mandatory army service.

For me, it’s definitely the Second Wave. I just love bands that mix the goth sound with rock, especially hard rock. I wish we had more modern bands following this path.
