i feel like as a fellow goth girl there must be people like me in various places, but they’re kinda like turtles! i’m dying for a fren who just likes rambling about hood music and makeup help. um, yeah. sorry for this post, and i apologize

I see so many goths with huge, teased up, thick hair. Unfortunately I have pretty thin hair and it’s hard to find any hair style that would ever fit me because of my thin hair. Most of the time it just falls over unless I don’t have tons of dry shampoo and hair spray which results in a rough looking texture and adds up quick with the amount of product I put in my hair. Right now I have just a regular undercut that sometimes I form into a Mohawk, but I’d like something more extreme.

Anyone have any recommendations? I’m not asking for Robert Smith or Ronny Moorings hair, but something that is more alternative and eye catching than an undercut.

I was laughing at this Tiktok that was talking about how goths destroyed the temple of Artemis and the comments were like “my bad” and there was one comment that was like “destroyed by people who listen to MCR” and my smile never dropped so fast 😭 like not the MCR 😭😭(no shade to them ofc, love those guys)

just saw a post on a non-goth related subreddit that happened to feature a goth woman, and so many people in the comments were implying or outright saying that she's only dressing goth to be "unique" or to feel superior. and i wonder what are your thoughts on this mindset?

i personally just don't understand this train of thought at all. just because dark fashion came into the mainstream a couple years ago doesn't mean everyone who's goth is only doing it because they wanna stand out. the woman in the post wasn't even the trendy sort of goth! i legitimately love this subculture and it honestly makes me a bit mad.

of course there were also snarky comments about how she dresses that way to feel unique but dresses like every other goth 🙄 like yes, that's sort of an aspect of nearly any subculture, you guessed it! fashion is still a thing in subcultures and it doesn't discredit someone's gothness just because they dress similar to other goths.

one time i got a comment on one of my own selfies saying i should make sure i actually like being alternative instead of only liking it because it's different. still irritates me to this day tbh. why make such a hefty assumption about a stranger? i don't dress how i do just to stand out, i dress how i do because i love it! it makes me feel like myself and increases my confidence.

btw i'm not implying that goth is merely looks, this issue is just fashion-centric. anyway, rant over lmao

I(22F) have been BIG TIME into darkly inclined stuff and horror movies and alternative stuff in general ever since I was very very young and I have recently gotten into goth music and im finally dressing the way that I want since I have a job with my own money saved up. Now also keep in mind, I don't have my license yet bc I've been anxious about driving but my moms helping me get used to it. One morning I overheard my dad say some shit along the lines of "Shes obviously mentally 15 with the way she dresses and sets her room up you just gotta wait for her to grow up a little" like somehow my style makes me not a "mental adult". Do any other 20+ alt people have to deal with infantalizing mindsets like this?

I (23) have goth friends but we all met through ask.fm in early 2010s, and we are from different cities, so we basically only see each other at festivals and on travels. I really want to meet people from my city (Wrocław, Poland). I've tried to organise a meetup and many people seemed interested, but almost all of them dropped out and long story short, the thing won't happen. I attended The Cure themed event tonight, and was actually pretty dissapointed, because the club was almost empty, so I went home early. I go to live shows too, but people who stay after the concert ends are all 30+ and in friend groups, younger people just go home. I talk to some folks online, but they're either from different cities or countries, or really shy and kinda scared to meet up for coffee or something like that. Any ideas? Sadly there are no goth shops or goth clubs here.
