Teen Gothic

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, I’m doing a project based around this subject so would be very glad for any information

I never heard the word being used back in the latter end of 90s and 2000s in my limited circles, both online and in real life, but I've stumbled upon a few old threads somewhere where this was mentioned as being used to exclusively refer to goth rock/second wave bands at some point. Can anyone provide further insight maybe with references if possible? I'm just merely curious about the use of the term from a historical stand point and if it was used back in the day (especially 80s) among certain people and how common was it?

I'm well aware of another modern term that seems like an internet label describing a wide array of dark bands unrelated or partially including goth and that's not what I'm referring to.

All Goths are different and some will have varying opinions but I often find myself wishing that Goth was the majority instead of the minority.

As in, you could walk into a supermarket or public gathering in extreme goth and nobody would stare or even notice because everyone else would be Goth too so it wouldn't stand out as being weird or different.

I wish the world was like this. Do you?

I struggle with pretty bad self esteem and social anxiety issues, and I dress pretty punk/grunge/goth/alt because that's what makes me feel more confident. But whenever I see other people who also have the same style and look super cool, I feel horrible and insecure about myself and I feel like I don't look good enough and will never look good enough. I see so many badass clothes online and in person and I feel so tempted to keep buying more. Each time I think "If I just buy this, I'll finally look cool and feel good about myself and people will finally be interested in me." Obviously that doesn't happen, and no matter what I wear, I still feel inferior and ugly. Has anybody else ever dealt with this?
